City of Dallas Paints the Town Purple
Raising Awareness for Domestic Violence
(DALLAS, Texas) – Nearly 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner per minute in the United States. In honor of National Domestic Violence Month in October, the City of Dallas is preparing for several events to raise awareness. Paint the Town Purple is the City of Dallas’ Domestic Violence Awareness movement hosted by the City of Dallas’ Domestic Violence Taskforce during the month of October.
Domestic Violence affects families, friends, relationships, and businesses – taking a physical, mental and financial toll on victims. The City of Dallas urges the public to get involved with a goal of raising awareness about domestic violence issues in the community and the resources available to victims.
During the month of October, the Taskforce has created a Calendar of Events to help the public engage in activities to raise awareness of domestic violence. The Task Force is asking citizens to “Paint the Town Purple” in solidarity and to come together as a community to help end domestic violence in Dallas. Citizens can showcase support by wearing a purple ribbon on their lapel for the month of October, painting one fingernail purple or wearing purple to work.
Help the City of Dallas reach their goal of making all homes safe. Swap your porch light to a purple bulb this month. There is a list below with details on where the public can pick up a complimentary purple light bulb, thanks to a generous donation from Walmart, at one of thirty convenient locations throughout Dallas, while supplies last.
