City of Dallas Celebrates The Life And Legacy Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King JrThe Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center will kick off its 33rd Annual Birthday Celebration with a series of events honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Special events include a Health & Information Fair, an Affordable Care Act Enrollment, a Candle-Lighting ceremony hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, a March/Parade from City Hall to Fair Park, and a formal Awards Banquet with a silent auction. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Dream Forward.” All activities are free and open to the general public, with the exception of the awards banquet.

When/ Saturday, January 10th at 10:00 a.m. — Health & Information Fair/ Affordable Care Act Enrollment

Where: MLK Jr. Recreation Center- 2901 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, TX 75215
It’s a Family Affair! Come out for free health screenings, mammograms, children’s medical services and more. Raffle prizes include a 51” flat screen television. K104 FM will be on-site for a live radio broadcast. There will also be an Affordable Care Act Enrollment (in Building A) with trained specialists on-site to help guide you through the healthcare enrollment process.

When: Friday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m. — Candle- Lighting Ceremony

Where: MLK Jr. Recreation Center- 2901 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, TX 75215

When: Saturday, January 17th at 10:00 a.m. — Martin Luther King, Jr. March & Parade

Where: The parade will assemble at City Hall Plaza to Ervay Street south, to MLK Jr. Blvd., past the MLK Complex to the Fair Park entrance. Participants include bands, floats, community/civic groups, churches and a live radio broadcast.

When: Saturday, January 17th at 6:00 p.m. — Awards Banquet and Silent Auction

Where: Hyatt Regency Hotel- 300 Reunion Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75207
6:00PM: Silent Auction — 6:30PM: VIP Reception — 7:30PM: Awards Banquet

Keynote Speaker: Ms. Rahiel Tesfamariam, public theologian, social activist, writer and speaker. She is the Founder of UrbanCusp.com, an online lifestyle magazine. Other special guests include Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Dallas City Council members, elected officials, and live entertainment from Booker T. Washington High School students.
