Events planned for January 17 and 18
The City has planned several events on January 17 and 18 in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Planned events for the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration include: a Candle-Lighting ceremony, March/Parade, Awards Banquet, Silent Auction, and Super Saturday Festival.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Freedom, Equality, & Opportunity, Forever!” All activities are free and open to the general public, however; there is a fee to attend the awards banquet and dance. Friday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. — Candle- Lighting Ceremony MLK Jr. Recreation Center- 2901 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, TX 75215 This event is sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Saturday, January 18 at 10:00 a.m. — Martin Luther King, Jr. March & Parade
The parade will assemble at City Hall Plaza to Ervay Street south, to MLK Jr. Blvd., past the MLK Complex to 2922 MLK Jr. Blvd. Participants include bands, floats, community/civic groups, and churches and a live broadcast featuring Radio One, 97.9FM, and 94.5FM radio personalities. Saturday, January 18 from 11:00am to 4:00pm — MLK Jr. Super Saturday Festival (Health and Information Fair/ Affordable Care Act Information and Enrollment) Where: MLK Jr. Recreation Center; 2901 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, TX 75215
