DEACON ROBERT WALKER JRRobert Walker, Jr., was born April 22, 1937 to the parentage of Robert and Minnie Earl Walker in Seagoville, Texas.

During his formative years, he attended the Strangers Rest Baptist Church of Ft. Worth, Texas where he also accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He attended Ft. Worth Public Schools and graduated from I. M. Terrell High School in May 1955.

He went on to attend Prairie View A&M College where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Education in 1960. In September 1960, he entered the United States Army and received an Honorable discharge in September 1962. While at Prairie View, he met Lavada Broussard. On June 13, 1962, he and Lavada were united in holy matrimony. In 1965, this union was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Kimberly DeVette (affectionately known as “Kimley”).

Robert later went back to Prairie View and attained his Master of Science Degree. In 1963, his teaching career began in Texarkana, Texas at the Dunbar High School. In 1967, he and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. He was employed with the Wilmer-Hutchins School District from 1967– 1969.

He was later hired by the Dallas Independent School District where he taught Occupational Education and Mathematics. Deacon Walker retired from DISD in May 1992.

Church Affiliations in Dallas. In 1967, he became a member of the Beth Eden Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Rev. Lloyd D. Hall. In the organization of the Church, he became one of the first deacons. He also served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and President of the Usher Board.

In 1976, he and his family became members of the Bon Air Missionary Baptist Church. At Bon Air, he served as Deacon, past Usher Board President and Evangelistic Team President.

Organization Affiliations Deacon Walker is a member of the Tommie Robinson American Legion Post 802, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Dallas Retired Teachers Association, and the Dallas Prairie View Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Earlie Luster. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Lavada; daughter, Dr. Kimberly Walker Brown (Daniel); sisters, Ollie M. Glasco and Alice M. Walker, both of Fort Worth, TX; goddaughters, Kaysha and Destinee Cohen; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and loved ones.
