Dr. Erica Washington McDonald, great granddaughter of  Booker T. Washington (center) at the African American Museum in Dallas with Dr. Marvin Delany, Museum Director,  along with historian Sandra Crenshaw and James Collins , a member of the  Board of Directors of  BTW Park near Mexia, Texas.  Not pictured is Justice Cory Carlyle.  The event was held  in the Legacy of Booker T. Washington on the importance of education and achievement.   Dr. McDonald, an educator from Atlanta ISD, read a book to the Museum’s summer camp that she authored, entitled “Growing Booker.”  The book is a children’s edition of  her father grandfather’s autobiography “Up from Slavery.“   Refreshments provided  for the youth included a traditional menu: strawberry water, Linda Henderson’s chicken, a cold apple, and a tea cake .  Among those who contributed to the book reading were  Rev. Terrence Perkins, Judge Dominique Collins, Dr. Elba Garcia, Mega Lawyer Jeff Tillotson,  DHA Board member Betty Culbreath, Judge Dale Tillery,  Probation Officer Andre Turner, Treasurer Pauline Medrano, Judge Monica Purdy, and Atty. Kim Bailey Phipps and Dr. Brian Williams.
