A Little Bit of Faith: What Are You Wearing?

In our society today, it seems as if people have forgotten what it means to be modest. Often, youth will say, “That’s old school.”  But is it old school to want a person to have a belt to keep their pants up? Is it old school for young ladies to dress in a more modest manner?  I would say not.  In the book of 1 Timothy it says, “I … want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety…but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God” (1 Timothy 2:9-10).

For some people it may appear that what Paul is saying is too ancient, but it’s not.  Paul is simply saying that if you profess to know Christ, there should be a standard by which you are trying to live your life.  This does not mean that you are not able to be fashionable.  However, what it does mean is that you should consider what you are wearing.

Perhaps if you’re thinking about wearing something that is a little too risqué, you should pause and ask yourself if what you’re wearing would be pleasing to God. I know it sounds a little funny to say that. But if you do this, you’ll probably decide not to wear outfits that might be too risqué for you.  How we present ourselves as people of Christ, says a lot about who we are as Christians.

What are you going to wear today? Are you beginning to rethink your wardrobe? I know I am. Take time this week to see if you are dressing too risqué, if so, perhaps you should pray about it. Amen? Amen.
