A Little Bit of Faith: Have a Thankful Heart this Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, many of us are thinking more about the Thanksgiving meal, than actually taking time to give thanks to the heavenly Father for all of the many blessings so many of us have on a daily basis.  In 1 Chronicles David prays in the assembly and he blessed the Lord.  David told the Lord that He is “…exalted as the head above all” (1 Chronicles 29: 11).  David reminded the Lord of His power and might. David continued by letting the Lord know that he (David) was thankful for Him as well. He said, “And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name” (1 Chronicles 29:13).

What are you thankful to God for this Thanksgiving? Are you thankful for your family, friends, job, health, or strength? Or do you simply take everything for granted? Many of us take all of our daily blessings for granted. Often, we become used to having everything that we need, and if we don’t get one little thing, then we are ungrateful and we are unable to see how we have been blessed in the past and we continue to be blessed.

If you find yourself not having a thankful heart this Thanksgiving, sit down and write a list of all the things you have. Also, write a list of all the things that had to be paid and somehow you were able to make each and every payment. Matter of fact, write down each time you were able to feed yourself. It doesn’t matter if you purchased the food yourself or if you received the food from a food pantry. Somehow, you were able to feed yourself and someone else in your family. These are small and simple things that we can thank our Heavenly Father for.

So, this Thanksgiving, when you sit down to eat your traditional or nontraditional Thanksgiving meal, pause to be like David and thank God for all your blessings and praise the Lord’s Holy name. Can you do that this Thanksgiving? I know I will. Amen? Amen.

Happy Thanksgiving!
