Tis the season to be jolly and full of cheer. We are now in the full swing of the holiday season. You might feel frustrated and tired because of the hustle and bustle of trying to get your Christmas shopping done. However, all is not lost. The meaning of the season can still be found in the mist of all the chaos.

This is a joyous time of the year for those who believe in Jesus Christ. It is also a lonely time of the year for some people as well.  The pain of losing a loved one, loss of job, and being alone can cause people to feel as though there is nothing to be joyful for.

In these difficult situations, if we can pause and remember the good news that was announced to the shepherds in the field, you can see some aspect of your life in the telling of the story. The good news was proclaimed to men of low stature in their community. They had long days and nights working with and herding their sheep.

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests’” (Luke 2:13-14).  Once the shepherds heard the proclamation, they wanted to see the miracle for themselves.  They may have been tired, but they looked beyond their circumstances to recognize that something greater than them was taking place.

The men said, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about” (Luke 2:15). This is why this season is so precious. It’s the good news of Christ’s birth. It’s the good news of a newborn King. The men wanted to see their Messiah, Jesus.

If you can this season, try to help another family in need. Be Christ’s hands this precious season. Can you do this? I know I can. Amen? Amen.
