Guest Speaker at Arthur Ashe Kid’s Day
“I love the game of tennis,” First Lady Michelle Obama told the crowd at Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day on Saturday, August 26, 2013, Flushing Meadows, N.Y. It’s a great way to stay fit. And it’s a lifelong sport. It’s a great game to get your heart racing and pumping, no matter how old you are.”

The First Lady leads Let’s Move! a comprehensive initiative dedicated to solving the problem of obesity within a generation, so that children born today will grow up healthier and able to pursue their dreams.

This personal initiative by the First Lady serves as a statement for those who are looking for ways to get fit and stay healthy.

The Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is an annual event that kicks off the US Open, the world’s biggest professional tennis competition where the top 200 professionals gather for two weeks. This special day, in honor of tennis legend, Arthur Ashe, and held in the stadium that bares his name, was pluralized by Serena Williams, who introduced the First Lady. Serena is now the undisputed number one female professional tennis player in the world.

The accomplishments made by Blacks in America are astounding, especially in the political arena where the competition is much different than playing a tennis match. It is a blessing to witness these events as well as be a part of what’s happening in the world today. The next generation has a major responsibility of keeping the dream alive.
